The former Citibank Building was designed by American architect Henry Murphy. Citibank was founded in 1812. Its head office is located in New York, USA. The Tianjin branch opened in 1916. In 1918, construction of a new site began. It was completed in 1921 and moved in and started business in the same year. The main building of the bank has three floors and a basement. It is a Western classical-style building. In front of the building, there are four Ionic columns supporting it, forming an open colonnade. European-style stone steps are paved in front of the colonnade. There are seven square columns in the business hall. The inner wall has pilasters. The top is exquisitely carved.
