The former residence of Chen Guangyuan is located at the corner of Guilin Road and Dali Road in Tianjin. The east side of the building reaches Hengyang Road, the south side is along Dali Road, the west side is adjacent to Guilin Road, and the north side is adjacent to Changde Road. It is a two-story, partially three-story European modern-style building. The yellow sulfur brick wall is particularly eye-catching.
The second floor protrudes from the third floor. There is a large terrace on the second floor, and an octagonal pavilion on the roof of the third floor. The architectural style is unique, showing luxury and grandeur in dignity and elegance. Chen Guangyuan, with the courtesy name Xiufeng (1873-1939), was from Cuijinkou, Wuqing District, Tianjin. He graduated from the Tianjin Military Academy in his early years and later followed Yuan Shikai and Feng Guozhang. He was a key figure in the Zhili clique of the Beiyang warlords and served as the military governor of Jiangxi for many years. In 1922, he was defeated by the Northern Expeditionary Army from Guangdong and was removed from office. He took nearly ten million yuan in property and moved into a villa on Yantai Road. Later, he invested a large amount of money to build a second luxurious villa here and purchased a large number of properties, invested in enterprises, opened banks and pawnshops, and lived a comfortable life as a retired official.
