The building was built in the second year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1574). It is one of the ancient mosques in Tianjin. Renowned scholar Wang Jingzhai once wrote in his book: ‘In the early years of the Ming Dynasty, there were some people from Anqing Gang in the grain transportation fleet. They would temporarily set up mat sheds here for worship every winter. Later, they pooled money to buy this place and built this mosque.
At first, the building was just a temporarily built room for worship. Later, under the persuasion of a person named Wang Yuzhou, Zuo Guanting and Mu Yushan donated some houses and built the main hall, north-south lecture halls, and bathing rooms. During the Guangxu period, under the persuasion of an imam surnamed Feng, funds were raised for renovation. In 1917, 1984, 1988, and 1990, repairs were carried out on the main hall, north-south lecture halls, and gate towers respectively.Must Read
