The Mesoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic National Nature Reserve is located north of Ji County in Tianjin City, to the east of the road from Ji County to Huangyaguan. It is the first geological nature reserve in China. The standard strata of the Mesoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic Era, formed between 1.8 to 0.8 billion years ago, start from Changzhou Village in the northeast of the county and extend in a northeast to southwest direction, layer upon layer, until reaching Fuzun Mountain near the county town, stretching approximately 24 kilometers from north to south and averaging about 350 meters in width from east to west. The strata are complete, continuously exposed, well-preserved, and rich in paleontological fossils. The reserve also houses an exhibition hall.
Within the reserve, there are overlapping mountains and beautiful scenery, with the meandering Huangyaguan Great Wall to the north, the ancient cultural hub of Yuyang Ancient County to the south, the ‘First Mountain of Eastern Beijing’ Panshan to the west, and adjacent to the Qing Dongling and Baxian Table Nature Reserves to the east. The main object of protection is the standard section of the Mesoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic Era, which exposes a well-preserved, structurally simple, and continuously exposed ancient strata stretching over 20 kilometers from Changshan Village near Huangyaguan to Fuzun Mountain north of Ji County town. This is the stratigraphic section named ‘Mesoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic Era’ in 1982 (formerly known as ‘Sinian Suberathem’), hailed as a rare and valuable geological treasure and considered a precious natural historical heritage of the world. The reserve is open all year round, with full-day access.Jizhou District Mesoproterozoic-Neoproterozoic National Nature Reserve
