Li Jifu’s Former Residence

Li Jifu’s former residence is located at No. 12 Huayuan Road, Heping District, covering an area of 5429 square meters. It was designed by Swiss architect Lu Fu from the Le Li Engineering Company and is a group of buildings imitating the British courtyard style. The main building, constructed in 1918, is made of brick and wood, with two floors and a basement. Li Jifu, a comprador for the British firm Renji Foreign Trade Company, had a residence that combines Chinese and Western architectural features.

The exterior is primarily red brick with clear water walls. The porch at the main entrance consists of three continuous arches, with circular perforated flower decorations under the arches. In the center of the courtyard, there is a fountain, and large flower beds are set at the four corners. The entire architectural layout is grand. Inside the building, there are bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, studies, and bathrooms, each with wooden floors, bright windows, and a very transparent atmosphere.

Surrounding the main building, the courtyard is filled with greenery and flowers. The south side is a courtyard wall with iron flower railings. This large residence, surrounded by streets on all sides, has an elegant shape and a quiet environment, and is a modern building decorated with classical architectural techniques.
