Pigeon Nest Park, also known as Yingjiao Park, is located at the northeastern corner of Beidaihe Beach and is one of the famous attractions in Beidaihe. The park offers an excellent view of the sea, and watching the sunrise here is an activity that most tourists visiting Beidaihe should not miss. During the spring and autumn migration seasons, it is also a popular spot for photographers to observe and photograph birds.
Pigeon Nest Park is not large, stretching about 500 meters long and 200 meters wide along the beach. The park is roughly divided into three parts: a hill, a lake, and a beach. The hill refers to the picturesque rocky hill by the sea known as Yingjiao Stone, the lake is the central Mandarin Duck Lake, and the beach is the coastal sandy wetland. In addition, there are artificial structures such as the Sea Viewing Corridor, Yingjiao Pavilion, and statues, all of which can be visited on foot within the park, taking about 2-3 hours. Surrounding the lake within the park, there are some simple amusement facilities, and visitors can enjoy boating on the lake. Watching the sunrise is a must-do activity at Pigeon Nest Park, which is one of the top ten sunrise viewing spots in the country. The park faces the vast Bohai Sea with an open view, and the sight of the red sun rising from the sea in the early morning, known as ‘Bathing in the Sun,’ is very spectacular. However, beautiful sunrises are not visible every day; overcast weather or morning fog can affect the sunrise. Generally, the chance of seeing a beautiful sunrise is higher in September. The sunrise viewing spot is located on Yingjiao Stone, which offers a higher elevation and a broader view. For daytime visits, summer is a suitable season when the sea water is cool and comfortable. Although the tidal flats by the sea in the park are not suitable for swimming, it is still very pleasant to walk barefoot on the sand and feel the cool sea water. Many tourists also enjoy catching small crabs in the tidal flats, which is quite interesting. Spring and autumn are the seasons for bird watching, with many birds present from March to May and September to November, making it a great time for photography. In other seasons, the park has hundreds of pigeons for visitors to take photos with, but the scenery may be more ordinary. In winter, the park is quite cold, and there are fewer coastal activities, mainly watching the sunrise, but visitors must prepare warm clothing. The park is open from November 5th to November 30th from 06:00 to 19:00.
