The Shanghai Eyeglasses Museum is located at No. 533 Baochang Road, Baoshan Community Cultural Activity Center. It spans an area of 2000 square meters, with an exhibition area of 1500 square meters across two floors. The museum is divided into several sections, including ‘The World of Eyes’, ‘Optics of Eyeglasses’, ‘Materials and Testing of Eyeglasses’, ‘History of Eyeglasses’, ‘Eyeglasses Industry’, and ‘Design and Culture of Eyeglasses’. Each exhibition area presents the relationship between eyes and eyeglasses, the technology of eyeglasses themselves, and the history of their development through images, physical objects, and 3D animations. The second-floor exhibition area is dedicated to educating young students and the general public on eye care, helping them to protect their eyes effectively in response to the increasing damage to eyesight due to changes in social lifestyles. The ‘treasures’ of the museum are housed on the third floor. If the second floor is for promoting eye care knowledge, then the third floor is primarily for the public to gain a comprehensive understanding of the main tool for correcting vision – eyeglasses. It reveals the technological knowledge and cultural connotations behind them while showcasing the history, current status, and future prospects of the eyeglasses industry in China and around the world. The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Saturday, 09:00-11:00 and 13:30-16:00. Group visits require a phone reservation one day in advance. The specific business status is subject to the daily opening conditions.
