The ‘Future of the Future – Shanghai Urban Photography Digital Restoration Exhibition’ is an event that draws on the extensive collection resources of the Shanghai Library. It centers around the theme of Shanghai in modern science fiction, tentatively integrating elements of science fiction imagination, historical memory, and contemporary AIGC artworks. The exhibition uses images and visuals to take visitors on a journey through time and space, starting from old Shanghai.

On September 28, coinciding with the second anniversary of the opening of the East Library, a special event titled ‘Future of the Future Library – Celebrating the East Library’s Birthday with Paintbrushes’ is being launched. This event is an invitation to readers of all ages to visit the exhibition hall. Here, they can appreciate the valuable historical collection photos, the bold science fiction imaginations of our predecessors, and the future visions that were imagined by people in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, visions that are continuously being realized before their eyes. Visitors are then encouraged to use their own paintbrushes to depict the future library as they envision it.
The exhibition will be open from September 23 to December 23. Please note that the specific business status may vary depending on the situation on any given day.
