Charles Lloyd, an NEA Jazz Master Award recipient and Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in France, is an unparalleled jazz saxophone master. At the age of 86, he continues to be active in the contemporary jazz scene. Lloyd has formed quartets with jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. His fusion of post-bop, free jazz, rock, and world music quickly gained favor with young rock fans and became the first jazz band to perform at the renowned Fillmore venue. His album ‘Forest Flower, Live at Monterey’ has sold over a million copies. In the new millennium, Lloyd formed a ‘new quartet’ with pianist Jason Moran, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland. They recorded three ECM records, and ‘Rabo de Nube’ was rated as the number one reader and critic’s choice by Jazz Times magazine in 2008. His subsequent band, The Marvels, included guitarist Bill Frisell, Reuben Rogers, Eric Harland, and steel guitarist Greg Leisz. Their debut album ‘I Long To See You’ featured collaborations with country master Willie Nelson and pop jazz queen Norah Jones. In 2024, Charles Lloyd swept the 72nd DownBeat Awards, becoming the first musician to receive honors for Musician of the Year, Album of the Year, and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year simultaneously. Today, Charles Lloyd remains open-minded and active in the jazz world, writing contemporary mythological legends. The performance begins on November 5th, Tuesday, at 19:30 and lasts approximately 90 minutes without intermission.
