Wendy Walk, a band with male and female lead vocalists from Taipei, China, is true to their poetic and dreamlike name. ‘Romance’ is their defining characteristic. At the end of 2020, the song ‘I Want to Be with You’, composed by lead vocalist and guitarist Zeng Ni, became a smash hit, propelling them into the spotlight as a new generation band within just two years. “I want to be with you, to chase away the dark clouds, to wake up from the beach…” The lyrics whisper sweet nothings of love and fantasy, resonating with countless fans.
Wendy Walk is both a storyteller of slow rock and a lyrical bard of rock. Their music is sometimes psychedelic, sometimes tender with a touch of folk, as if freely wandering between different musical worlds. However, when asked about their specific style, even the band members themselves laugh and admit that it’s hard to define. They wish to explore a multitude of sounds, including rock, electronic, and Funk, without being confined to a single label or trapped by a fixed style.
In 2023, Wendy Walk released their second album ‘Midnight Blue’, marking another new departure in their musical exploration. Compared to the dreamy romance of their first album ‘Spring Spring’, this new album appears more mature and profound.Featuring nine tracks, each song is imbued with the atmosphere of night. From lyrics to melody, the entire album carries a strong midnight blue tone, as if leading the listener into an enchanting world of night.
Unlike their previous works, which focused on the innocence of youthful love, ‘Midnight Blue’ zooms in on the complexities of adult love—arguments, separations, ambiguities. While their past works depicted the romance of youth, ‘Midnight Blue’ turns its lens to the emotional entanglements of the adult world, both realistic and imbued with their unique poetic sensibility.
Following the theme of the album, Wendy Walk is extending this concept with the ‘Midnight Wandering’ tour. Each city’s night is a unique world.
