Shanghai Pudong Biyun Art Museum Presents Zhou Xiaohu’s ‘Endless Aspects’
Zhou Xiaohu’s latest solo exhibition, ‘Endless Aspects’, is scheduled to open at the Shanghai Pudong Biyun Art Museum on September 26th. The title of the exhibition is derived from the ‘Vimalakirti Sutra – The Gate of Non-Duality’, embodying the infinite cycle of the material and spiritual essence of pigments. This concept resonates with the artist’s ongoing exploration of social phenomena, sustainability, closed loops, and the ‘chain of control’ as seen in his previous works.
The ‘Pigment Geography’ Project
‘Endless Aspects’ marks the beginning of Zhou Xiaohu’s ongoing project, ‘Pigment Geography’. In this exhibition, the artist employs cinnabar and lapis lazuli as starting points to delve into the history of human discovery, mining, circulation, and application of pigments. He views these historical processes as ‘expanded readymades’, offering a montage-like, cross-temporal, and material history of magical narratives.
Exhibition Highlights
- Clay Stop-Motion Animation Installations: ‘The Image of Kan and Li’
- Dot Matrix Painting Series: A series that contributes to the exhibition’s thematic exploration.
