The Awakening Society, founded by Ma Jun, Guo Longzhen, Liu Qingyang, and others, was a revolutionary organization with ‘renovation’ and ‘renewal of spirit’ as its main ethos, and ‘self-awareness’ and ‘self-determination’ as its core principles. It played an active role in uniting progressive youth and spreading Marxism.

The former site of the Awakening Society is a small compound consisting of seven blue-brick bungalows, now converted into a memorial hall. The hall is divided into two parts: the restored exhibition and the auxiliary exhibition. The restored exhibition room contains valuable artifacts such as the tools and study documents of the society members from that time. In the auxiliary exhibition room, there is a wealth of historical documents, photographs, paintings, sculptures, and models.

Opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-16:30 all year round; closed all day on Mondays; and open from 09:00-16:30 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
