The site, known as the Ruins of the Sanitary Ditch at the Former Beiyang Workshop, was originally the dormitory for child laborers at the Beiyang Cotton Mill. In a small room of just over ten square meters, dozens of female workers were crammed together, living in a dark and damp environment where sewage would often flow. Outside, the streets were higher than the alleys, and the alleys were higher than the houses, causing rainwater to flow into the rooms during rainy days. The Ruins of the Sanitary Ditch is a true depiction of the hard life of female workers in the cotton mill over 80 years ago. The site is open all year round and available 24/7, with specific operating conditions subject to daily opening status.
