Touching the temperature of a city can be measured in various ways. Starting from the West Gate, the photocopy shop downstairs the community building adjacent to the fruit store filled with yellow oranges. In the warm sun, the low wooden stools with floral bedding, in the mist, the blurred mottled shadows. I have passed by the Oriental Pearl Tower, where neon lights sprinkle on the Bank of China beside the street. In the bustling area, Yong’an Department Store stands tall. After the rain cleared up, I took a sip of pearl milk tea. On the 1912 Vintage Street, Agan’s pot lid and the fixed teeth toothpaste are covered with fallen leaves. The old residence of Ba Jin, with a banner hanging at the factory entrance saying ‘Safety makes the city better’. The old street is filled with the stories of this city, past, present, and future. A note is posted at the convenience store entrance: ‘2020 calendars are in stock’.
If you prefer tranquility, come to the small town in Qingpu District. Hidden from the world, the pink walls and black tiles are more inviting.
The itinerary for Day 1: Check-in at Zhujiajiao Ancient Town.

Nestled in Baolong Plaza, Huaxin Town, it is conveniently located adjacent to the National Convention and Exhibition Center and in close proximity to the Hongqiao Transportation Hub. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from Hongqiao Airport, making it an ideal base for your business endeavors.
The superior environment and elegant atmosphere of the Baolong Regency Hotel align perfectly with the Regency Group’s positioning. The hotel’s clever structural design features hidden gauze curtains, creating an open and cinematic feel. The wooden furniture and carpet of the same color set a tranquil and cozy tone, with a table and sofa under the window providing an inviting spot to relax. During winter, the warm sun’s rays offer the utmost comfort, and nothing compares to the luxury of a large bed.
The transparent shower room boasts a minimalist design, cleverly extending the sense of space. Exquisite toiletries provided for guests are not only convenient for travel but also demonstrate the hotel’s keen attention to detail.
For cultural exploration, the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town ticket, priced at 64 yuan, offers access to eight scenic spots and includes a boat trip. Located in Shanghai’s Qingpu District, Zhujiajiao is a quaint Jiangnan ancient town where tourists in traditional costumes are a common sight. It’s a place where ancient and modern times blend seamlessly, with bustling streets and quiet tea houses by the water. Here, you can indulge in local delicacies such as braised meat or salted egg yolk zongzi, and find yourself in an unknown small restaurant savoring a bowl of shepherd’s purse meat wonton, which is both fragrant and delicious.
Lastly, atop the roof of Xiadu Town, a cat mother and her four kittens offer a heartwarming sight, adding a touch of whimsy to your visit. At the end of the street, there is a locked object shop, and through the window, it is full of childlike fun. Lazily nestling in the sofa, time slowly passes.
Jianwu Bookstore:
Address: 1203 Xiewei Road.
Business Hours: 10:00-21:00.
Average: 50 yuan.
The bookstore is a cultural distribution center and a spiritual landmark, a form of expression, a form of creation. Jianwu is the largest physical bookstore in Qingpu, a three-story detached building in Xiadu Town, standing alone in a corner. As soon as you enter, the entire space is almost at a glance. Except for the milky white walls, bookshelves, tables, and chairs are all made of logs, accompanied by dark iron art decorations outlining the frame. The high and low staggered design makes the level and space open and spacious, bright and comfortable. It is not cold because of the remoteness. This is not just a bookstore, but more of a life hall, including a library, coffee shop, painting studio, cultural and creative, and flower shop. There are different types of activities every week. The time here is slow, people are empty and also full. It is a suitable place for people living nearby to read quietly.
Kanda Island Ramen:
Address: 1458 Xiewei Road.
Business Hours: 11:00-14:00, 17:00-22:30.
Average: 79 yuan.
The shrimp flavor pork bone ramen, the strong shrimp flavor soup head, has dyed the whole bowl of noodles orange. The pork bone soup base has no meat smell at all, which is good. Special spicy cold noodles, the combination of sweet, spicy, and sour, is relatively spicy. The ancient town of Jinze, with its clear waves reflecting like a mirror, willow smoke on the banks, boats shuttling back and forth, and winding paths ribboning through the landscape, is a serene haven amidst the bustling city of Shanghai. Entry to this tranquil retreat is free, making it an ideal destination for a peaceful getaway.
In Jinze, one can savor the simple yet delightful flavors of home-cooked food, such as Japanese fried dumplings that are handmade and naturally superior to their frozen counterparts. The accompanying side dishes, featuring tomatoes, bean sprouts, and chicken feather vegetables, offer a refreshing taste that complements the meal.
For a unique beverage experience, try the watermelon Calpis, which intriguingly combines milk within the melon and a hint of carbonation within the milk, creating a delightful contrast of textures and flavors.
Beyond the town’s historical charm, nature enthusiasts will find solace in Qingxi Country Park, a rural park that celebrates the beauty of wetlands. The park’s metasequoia forest is particularly striking in early winter when the trees don their vibrant red coats, painting the landscape with a breathtaking display of color. The Ruyi Bridge, an arc-shaped single-hole stone bridge rebuilt during the Qing Guangxu period, stands as the best-preserved stone arch bridge in the area, a testament to the region’s rich history and craftsmanship.
