Established in 1991, Tianjin’s ‘Mingliu Teahouse’ features an intimate small stage with a circular opening, and an exhibition counter beside the stage displays traditional crafts and specialty snacks for audience appreciation and purchase. The teahouse was planned and designed with the guidance and assistance of Mrs. Lao She (Hu Jieqing), Wu Tongbin, and other distinguished gentlemen; its environment and decoration follow the traditional Chinese teahouse style, with large lacquered square tables (now replaced with long tables), backrest chairs, carved beams and painted rafters, and several palace lanterns hanging.

It exudes an antique, elegant, and solemn atmosphere. As a venue for the exchange and interaction of Tianjin’s performing arts celebrities, Mr. Ma Sanli inscribed the plaque ‘Mingliu Teahouse’, and Mrs. Lao She (Hu Jieqing) inscribed the word ‘Mingliu’, enhancing the teahouse’s cultural value. The Tianjin Mingliu Teahouse Art Troupe was established in 2000, having successively formed a Yue Opera Troupe, Drum Music Troupe, and Peking Opera Troupe, and in March 2009, the Tianjin Mingliu Teahouse Crosstalk Art Troupe was also established.

The teahouse art troupe is home to veteran crosstalk performers like Zhang Kuiqing, as well as middle-aged and young performers such as Tong Youwei, Ma Shuchun, Yu Hao, Zhang Jie, Luo Feng, and Wu Bin, who have won numerous awards in various national performing arts and crosstalk competitions. The teahouse is open all year round: Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 17:00 and 19:30 to 21:30; Saturday and Sunday from 13:30 to 15:30, 16:30 to 18:30, and 19:30 to 21:30.
