Tianzun Pavilion is a tall wooden structure building that is lofty and straight, magnificent in momentum, and set off by green trees and red walls. It is one of the three major Taoist pavilions in Tianjin’s history. Tianzun Pavilion is located on the south bank of Huixiang River. It is composed of a mountain gate, side halls and the pavilion. It was once a Taoist place dedicated to deities such as Yuanshi Tianzun, Queen Mother of the West and Ziwei Dadi.
It is also known as Taiyi Temple. Tianzun Pavilion was originally composed of a mountain gate, side halls and a large pavilion. Later, most of the buildings were destroyed in earthquakes, and only the large pavilion remains. Tianzun Pavilion is built on a tall brick and stone platform and is a three-story pavilion style. Inside the pavilion, eight large pillars with a length of 12 meters connect the three-story floor slabs. Outside the large pillars, there are eaves pillars, mountain pillars and corridor pillars. Different specifications of mortise and tenon joints are used to connect the wooden components into one body, and the structure is extremely firm. The lower floor is called Tianzun Pavilion, with 5 bays in width and 4 bays in depth with a front corridor. The middle floor is the Queen Mother Hall, with 5 bays in width and 4 bays in depth. The upper floor is named Ziwei Hall, with 5 bays in width and 2 bays in depth with a front corridor. The pavilion roof is of the Xieshan style with nine ridges and green tiles. Inside the pavilion, there are eight through pillars with a length of 12 meters and a diameter of 0.6 meters as supports. Outside the through pillars, there are eaves pillars, mountain pillars and corridor pillars. They are connected with the three-story horizontal and vertical beams and two-story floor slabs through brackets and mortise and tenon joints. In addition, there are densely distributed thick cypress woods as pile foundations. Thus, a reasonable structural design system is formed. The structural shape of this pavilion is also very refined. Under the eaves of each floor and above the wooden pillar architraves, there are various brackets as decorations. The brick carving on the main ridge shows two dragons playing with a pearl, with fine craftsmanship. The big kisses at both ends and the beasts on the ridge are all exquisitely carved and lifelike. In addition, an iron bell is hung under each eaves corner. Whenever a breeze blows, the sound within a radius of several miles is pleasant to the ear. Opening hours: Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.Tianzun Pavilion
