Xiasha Old Street is nestled on the east side of Hunan Road in Pudong, at the confluence of Yan Tie Tang and Xian Tang Port. This historic area is rich in cultural heritage. To the west of Xiasha, the Yanqiao Tangsong site, discovered in 1975, provides evidence of village settlements dating back from the early Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty.
Xiasha is recognized as an ancient town in the Nanhui region. Originally, this place was called Hesha, owing to its remote coastal location and its reputation as a production area for cranes. From the Southern Song Dynasty to the mid-Yuan Dynasty, Xiasha experienced a period of growth, particularly in its salt fields. The salt tax office was situated in Hesha during this time, which contributed to the development of Xiasha Town.
