Liang Qi and Gong Wang Memorial Hall is located in Xigu Park, Hongqiao District, Tianjin, and is a memorial hall built specifically for calligraphy and painting celebrities in Tianjin under the ‘public-private partnership’ model. Liang Qi and Gong Wang, both respected elders, lived in Hongqiao for a long time and were representative figures in Tianjin’s calligraphy and painting circle. They are also renowned national contemporary calligraphers and painters, as well as art educators, honored as ‘The Two Sages of Gu Shang’.
Mr. Liang Qi was proficient in both calligraphy and painting, with a mastery of freehand brushwork in flowers, birds, landscapes, vegetables, and figures. His finger paintings and writings were particularly distinctive and unique. He had profound research in poetry, art history, and art theory, holding an important position in the contemporary literati painting circle. Mr. Gong Wang was erudite, with deep knowledge in classics, epigraphy, poetry, exegesis, phonology, Buddhism, and especially in calligraphy art. His calligraphy covered various styles, with a particular excellence in clerical script, creating a unique ‘Gong Clerical’ style that stands alone in the calligraphy world. The Liang Qi Memorial Hall and Gong Wang Memorial Hall are separately established, each consisting of three sections: a life exhibition hall, displaying the life, social activities, and creative experiences of the two art masters through images, texts, and videos; a restored display hall, showcasing the personal belongings of Liang Qi and Gong Wang, recreating their living and working environments; and an artwork exhibition hall, exhibiting over a hundred precious calligraphy and painting works of different periods and styles by the two art masters. Additionally, for the convenience of visitors, the memorial hall is equipped with rolling video and touch screen computers, allowing visitors to appreciate many other fine works that are not displayed within the hall. The memorial hall is open to the public from 9:00 to 16:30 all year round.Must Read
