Xikai Church is located at the southern end of the bustling Binjiangdao Commercial Street. It was built in 1917 and is the main church of the Tianjin Diocese of Catholicism. The architectural style of the church is solemn and grand. The sculptures inside the church are also intricate and beautiful. In addition, masses and activities on Catholic festivals are open to the public and people can participate in them to feel the strong religious atmosphere.

External view: The exterior of the church is built with yellow and red interlaced flower bricks. The three towers arranged in a triangular shape and towering into the clouds are covered with green copper sheets. After years of erosion, the mottled green shines with a sense of historical glory under the sunlight. There is a bronze cross on top of each tower.

Interior architecture: Entering the church, the first thing that catches the eye is the internal main color tone composed of lake blue, white, and light yellow, giving people a fresh feeling. Various patterns are carved only in the appropriate positions. Fourteen pillars are arranged from the entrance to the altar, showing extraordinary bearing. There are exquisite bronze statues of believers around the church.

On the walls are oil paintings depicting the story of Jesus’ suffering. There are also colorful statues of the Virgin Mary, Jesus, angels, etc. in the church. In addition, the painted glass windows are also very charming. On one side of the church, you will find a small wooden room with a small cross on top. That is the ‘confessional booth’ used by priests to receive believers for confession.

Religious activities: The mass activities of Xikai Church are open to the public. Non-believers can also participate. However, during mass time, you cannot run around and visit everywhere in the church. Just sit quietly in the back row, do not make loud noises or take photos. Just feel the inner peace in the bustling city. In addition, there are also many activities on Catholic festivals, which are also open to the public like masses. For specific mass and Catholic festival activity times, please refer to the official website.

Opening hours: Open all year round from 8:30 to 16:00.

Must-see tips: 1. When visiting the church, you must dress appropriately. You cannot be shirtless or enter wearing slippers. 2. During Christmas, there will be traffic control around Xikai Church, and there will be restrictions on the passage of motor vehicles. You can take a bus or subway to get there.
