Yang Yi Art Museum: A Journey Through Collecting
Founded by Mr. Yang Yi, the Yang Yi Art Museum is a private art institution that has grown from a passion for antiques passed down through generations. Influenced by his father, Yang Shaohua, Mr. Yang Yi developed an affinity for old items from a young age, which later blossomed into a full-fledged collecting career. Since the late 1980s and early 1990s, he has been on a nearly thirty-year journey of collecting, experiencing the highs and lows that come with the territory.
Throughout his adventures in collecting, Mr. Yang Yi has encountered a myriad of emotions—ranging from finding bargains to being deceived, from anxiety and confusion to hesitation, joy, and excitement. His collection has grown to include thousands of pieces, spanning Ming and Qing furniture, ornamental stones, plaques, oil paintings, porcelain, and jade articles. Among these, he holds a particular fondness for ancient porcelain from the ‘Eight Kiln Systems’ and ‘Five Famous Kilns’ predating the Song Dynasty, which represent the pinnacle of Chinese porcelain craftsmanship. Similarly, he cherishes ancient jade articles that embody the spirit of craftsmanship of ancient sages.
As Mr. Yang Yi ages and his collecting journey continues, he is increasingly struck by the richness and diversity of Chinese traditional culture. He believes that the ingenuity and skill of ancient artisans should not be hidden away but should be celebrated and shared with the world. With a deep respect for culture, love, perseverance, and authenticity, the Yang Yi Art Museum opens its doors to share its collections with you.
