Yuanmiao Temple, commonly known as “Tiangong Temple”, is located at Xinfu Kou, Dongjie, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. It was first built during the Taikang period of the Western Jin Dynasty (280 – 289 AD). Initially named Baiyun Temple, it is the first Taoist temple in Fujian after Taoism was introduced here and had a great influence in history.
Unfortunately, since the late Qing Dynasty, it has been repeatedly damaged and occupied, and finally fell into disrepair.

In 1966, the government planned 10 mu of land for the reconstruction of Yuanmiao Temple. In the first-phase project, the Sanqing Hall was reconstructed at the original site of Yuanmiao Temple – the current Dongjie in the urban area. It was completed in December 1999.

The building area of this hall is 340 square meters. It has a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof style, looking magnificent and resplendent. Six dragon-carved stone pillars, 3.2 meters high and 0.84 meters in diameter, are extremely exquisite.

There are stone carvings and brick carvings with patterns of Taoist stories embedded in the eight stone windows on the east and west outer walls and the five walls behind the hall respectively. There are a total of nine dragon-shaped ridges on the roof of the hall. On the ridges, there are carvings of Laozi’s alchemy furnace, flying dragons, kylins and various Taoist ornaments, showing great ingenuity.

Opening hours: It is open from 8:00 – 17:30 throughout the year.
