Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, located in the southwest of Beijing, was anciently known as Fanyang. It is the hometown of Liu Bei and Zhang Fei in the Three Kingdoms era. Legend has it that in ancient times, Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei swore brotherhood here. Passing through the culvert under the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway from the concrete path in front of the stele is the ‘Brotherhood Road’. Walking straight along this road and passing Xigao Village, you will arrive at Zhongyidian, the hometown of Zhang Fei.
The Zhang Fei Temple is located here. Zhongyidian was earlier called ‘Taozhuang’. Later, because of the well-known Zhang Yide who participated in the Oath of the Peach Garden, it was called ‘Zhang Fei Store’. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, a magistrate of Zhuozhou felt that directly calling Zhang Huaihou by name seemed disrespectful, so he ordered it to be changed to ‘Zhongyidian’. The current Zhang Fei Temple was rebuilt in 1991. The temple covering more than fifty mu is arranged in sequence with mountain gates, horse halls, main halls, ancestral halls, and tombs. In the horse hall, there is a sturdy Wuzhui horse. The main gate of the main hall surrounded by corridors hangs a plaque with the inscription ‘Eternal Fame’.
