Zhou Shengchuan (1833-1885), styled Xinru, and later known as the Old Farmer of Beihai, was from Zhoujia Weizi, Hefei, Anhui. He served under Li Hongzhang of the Qing Dynasty, holding positions such as commander and inspector general, and was granted the honor of wearing a yellow robe by the emperor. In the first year of the Guangxu era (1875), he was appointed to manage the military farming affairs in Jin沽 and served as the commander of Tianjin, leading his troops to Xiaozhan Town for military training, farming, road construction, and the excavation of the Machangjian River, diverting water from the South Canal (also known as the Imperial River) for reclamation and rice cultivation. As population increased with the introduction of new settlers and cultivation, a new agricultural town (now known as Xiaozhan Town) was established. In the tenth year of the Guangxu era (1884), he returned to his hometown and passed away the following year. The Qing court posthumously honored him with the title ‘Wu Zhuang Gong’ and granted a dedicated temple for his worship. Opening hours: 09:00-19:00, January 1st to December 31st.Zhou Gong Ci Memorial
