Kawa Band, with their debut album ‘Out of Yunnan’ and the EP ‘Mangkha Radio’, has been synonymous with Yunnan for quite some time. They have even popularized the term ‘Yunnan reggae’, which is now recognized as a distinct music genre. The band’s second album, ‘Wild Sound Resonance’, marks a new chapter in their musical journey. It showcases a more incisive and imaginative side of Kawa Band, as they step beyond the confines of their Ximeng origins in Yunnan.
No longer bound by the ‘Wa ethnic group’, ‘Jamaica’, or ‘reggae’, Kawa Band speaks more authentically about what they wish to convey. ‘Wild Sound Resonance’ sees a reduction in the number of instruments used, yet the song arrangements are more intricate and nuanced. The familiar reggae rhythm is still present, but it is now complemented by the influences of classic rock and electronic music.
Lyrically, the album introduces a speculative temperament not seen in their previous works. It reflects on the torrent of social changes that have reached the remote mountains of Yunnan, painting a picture of a chaotic and perilous world that confronts us. The album poses poignant questions: What are we holding onto? How should we exist in such a world? This is a more contemplative Kawa Band, urging us to believe that, no matter what, they will always be by our side.
Join Kawa Band on their tour to experience this evolution in their music. The opening performance is scheduled for Thursday, October 24. Please note that the performance time and duration may vary based on the actual conditions on site.
