Artist Zhang Zien, born in Taipei in 2002, hails from a fourth-generation Christian family and has a fondness for nature and forests. Since childhood, he has been exposed to art education and has excelled in creating works using traditional media. He has a keen sense for spatial creation and enjoys using exhibitions or books to juxtapose and reflect on all his works. In the past two years, his practice has focused on performance, installation, and video art. Starting with the concept of ‘the body as a form of existence,’ he concentrates on the intertextual boundaries between the subject and its external environment. He has just completed two months of wandering in India. The exhibition’s title, ‘Don’t You Think He Can Be Erased?’ is derived from the inversion of the phrase ‘Don’t You Think She’s Suitable for the Morning?’ from Xia Yu’s poem. This exhibition can be seen as a translation of that phrase in various aspects—wandering through running, dislocation, evasion, and leaping dance movements; engaging in wrapping, concealing, hiding, and covering, deconstructing the self and identity… being erased or erasing oneself, and so on, until finally slipping in understanding. It is probably this confident indulgence, the process of being constantly reflected by one’s own image while walking, that feels like an unattainable journey. (The sound of friction) Also, perhaps I just love to wipe, I believe I love to erase, and I love these verbs as much as I understand these words, even if the latter is never easier or painless than the former. What fades or disappears in this process: ‘Master?’ He says: ‘The master lost between me and not me.’ If there is one thing that is important, it is definitely about my gracefully falling. The exhibition is open from 10/29 to 12/15, with performance times and durations subject to the venue.
