In 2024, the trendsetting classic literary theater focuses on Li Qingzhao, with a script co-authored by the golden trio of Chen Yizhen, Chen Yizhi, and Li Yixiu. The production invites art connoisseur Huang Dazhong as a guest, integrating poetry, history, tea tasting, and calligraphy to meticulously weave a reflection on Li Qingzhao’s life and literature from a modern perspective.
Li Qingzhao, a lyricist of the Song Dynasty, is a legendary figure in the history of Chinese literature, known for her graceful and elegant style, and her intense and distinctive personal emotions, standing alone in literary history. Born in the flourishing culture of the Northern Song Dynasty, the young Li Qingzhao and her husband Zhao Mingcheng enjoyed antiques, calligraphy, tea, and co-authored ‘Jin Shi Lu’. However, their deeply affectionate and comfortable life came to an abrupt halt due to national misfortune and relocation to the south, followed by turmoil, war, and separation. Li Qingzhao valiantly safeguarded her treasures and manuscripts through her arduous journey, ultimately unable to withstand the tide of the times with her own strength. Her later poems reflect her sorrow and deep longing for her loved ones. This performance presents a blend of ancient and modern, with the modern scenes featuring Chen Yizhen, Chen Yizhi, and Huang Dazhong on stage; while the ancient scenes invite Huang Yulin, Wen Yuhang, Chen Qinghe, and Huang Changran to perform. The show adheres to the tradition of integrating poetry into music and dance, leading the audience to explore the emotional world of Li Qingzhao. The performance is open from November 2nd to 3rd, Saturday to Sunday, and from November 29th to 30th, Friday to Saturday. The performance times and duration are subject to the venue’s schedule.【Taichung, Taiwan】Classic Literary Theater: ‘Ru Meng Ling – Li Qingzhao and Zhao Mingcheng’
