The theme of the 2024 Taiwan Design Exhibition is ‘Tainan is surely the future’. It not only focuses on the city’s long historical background. On the occasion of Tainan’s 400th anniversary, it makes people focus on the starting point of Taiwan again, which is Tainan. Then we can see the inclusive, intelligent, resilient and sustainable urban characteristics and multi-dimensional value beliefs of Tainan. It also introduces design into urban governance to connect the rooting power across generations, industries, fields and cultures, looking back to the past and looking forward to the future!

The static main visual of the exhibition is designed by the local team ‘Path & Landforms’, Yuan Wensheng and his team. Using the classic image of Tainan’s arched city gate and corridor, it creates the concept of ‘passing through’. The city gate seems to be the entrance to the corridor through time. It closely connects the past and the future. Walking in it is like embarking on a journey through time and space. In addition, the team cleverly uses the visual color scheme to bring out the dual charm of Tainan. The warm color series represents the landform monuments, folk customs and beliefs; the cold color series represents economic and trade waterways and green energy technology. The countless colorful color blocks adjacent in the picture are brick walls with historical memories and also represent the shining industries in Tainan. Through the reorganization of colors and structures, the stacked bricks are transformed into light beams passing through time and space, leading us through the long river of history and witnessing the development of the city.The dynamic main visual for the event was crafted by Zheng Kaiwen of ‘Nulls Design’. This design extends the concept of the main visual, illustrating that Tainan is a city born along the water, gradually extending from the waterway to the land. Over hundreds of years of development, Tainan has evolved from an ancient capital with a profound cultural heritage into a modern city with shining industries and numerous world-renowned brands. Through design and innovation, Tainan has turned over the bricks of history. “THE NEXT 400!” signifies that design has taken deep root in various industries, and we are moving towards a more shining future.

The ‘2024 Taiwan Design Exhibition’ is set to take place at the 2nd venue of Tainan Art Museum, West Market, and Banana Warehouse as the main exhibition areas. These locations will connect the surrounding cultural and artistic spaces with characteristic business districts, offering a diverse range of design response activities throughout the city. The grand event will commence in Tainan on October 26 and will last for 16 days. We invite everyone to experience the design power of the cultural capital. The exhibition will be open from October 26 to November 10, with the specific business status subject to the opening situation on each day.
