Liang Fang Gallery will present the joint exhibition ‘Co-Action’ from December 7, 2024, to January 24, 2025. The exhibition brings together the outstanding works of five artists/groups, including Zhu Weilong, He Li Interactive, Yuan Shifu, Yao Zhonghan, and Geng Jiesheng. It emphasizes the exploration of the relationship between ‘motion’ in material, space, and time through diverse artistic forms such as mechanical power and sound-light installations, presenting the materiality of power and the complex aesthetics produced by the interaction of different elements. The exhibition’s title ‘Co-Action’ originates from the concept of mutual influence in quantum mechanics, highlighting the variability of ‘motion’ and its connection to the microscopic world, revealing the entanglement, interdependence, and uncertainty between materials, and displaying their deep connection between energy and space. ‘Co-Action’ is not only an artistic interpretation of physical phenomena but also an in-depth discussion of human perception and environmental interaction. Artists use their works to provoke viewers to think about their connection with the outside world and how to achieve a new balance and understanding through synergy and resonance in a constantly changing environment. Geng Jiesheng, through in-depth exploration and experimentation with wood, uses a variety of techniques and materials to negotiate, attempting to break through the traditional understanding of wood. The artist reduces wooden blocks into thin slices, from one to many, from hard to soft, from individual to collective, showing the differences of materials at both the macro and micro scales, presenting an observation of the continuous flux and instability of the body in contemporary society. He Li Interactive’s works explore the relationship between objects and their existing space through the combination of different materials. Using inorganic materials to capture the dynamics of organic matter, natural laws are presented within man-made structures. The works emphasize the flow of time and the disappearance of materials, with viewers following the texture of the media, moving between soft and hard, feeling the aesthetics implied in the gaps of time. Yao Zhonghan’s works utilize the principle of electromagnetic force, densely arranging 96 electromagnets in a limited space that is only 11 cm long and 88 cm wide. Through innovative material use, the works explore the transformation of electromagnets between order and chaos, unearthing those unnoticed and hidden sounds. These carefully orchestrated noises make the materials display unique narrative and dramatic tension, presenting sounds that are rare or unexpected in life. Zhu Weilong’s kinetic installation works walk between flat and three-dimensional, using objects from traditional rural architecture, such as tin plates and wooden boards, focusing on the memory of Mahua culture, combining shadow puppetry, dragon dance culture, and unique local animal images. These symbolic objects dance with the work’s power system, creating a visual energy like a stage play, reflecting the ambiguity, contradictions, and floating conflicts in national identity.
Yu Shi Fu uses contemporary technology as a creative medium to capture the geometric data of bird flight, employing digital manufacturing techniques to shape the image of flying birds. Transforming technology into light wings, outlining the appearance of flight in space, it symbolizes freedom and courage, encouraging people to face challenges bravely and to hold beautiful imaginations and expectations for the future.
This exhibition, ‘Co-Action’, integrates technology media and cultural symbols through mechanical and sound-light installation works, creating a new artistic meaning through different resonances and vibrations. It also reflects how contemporary art, with innovative thinking, integrates diverse elements to explore unprecedented possibilities. The works not only demonstrate a deep understanding of dynamics and materiality but also explore the expression of ‘motion’ in different dimensions. The exhibition is open from December 7th to January 24th, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.
