The birthplace of Lu Xiufu, a prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty and an anti-Yuan hero. In February 1279, when the Yuan army breached the cliffs of Ya Mountain, he chose to avoid capture by the enemy, urging his wife and children into the sea before carrying the young emperor and calmly casting himself into the waves. In the 47th year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, Lu Xiufu was posthumously honored as ‘Loyal and Brave Duke’. In the 8th year of the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, it was decreed that Lu Xiufu would be commemorated in Confucian temples across the country. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, his hometown of Jianyang featured commemorative structures such as the Hall of Loyalty and Bravery, the Hall of Scenery and Loyalty, the Scenery and Loyalty Archway, the site where Lu Xiufu studied, the Scenery and Loyalty Academy, and the Southern Playhouse. The memorial hall is open daily from 08:30 to 11:00 and again from 14:30 to 17:00.
