Chikan Guanyin Temple. Nearly three hundred years ago, during the Kangxi period, the thirteenth generation ancestor of the Zhangjian surname, Zhangjian Wanbao, brought the Guanyin statue from Nanjing County on the Chinese mainland and settled in Chikan, Taiwan. At that time, life was economically difficult. People worshipped devoutly day and night in a bamboo house. Wanbao had eight sons who were all simple and upward-looking. In addition to devoting themselves to farming, handicrafts, and business, the father and sons agreed to set aside a piece of hillside land for ancestral worship. The place where the temple is built today is this land.
