M50, an abbreviation for No. 50 Moganshan Road, is located in the peninsula area on the south bank of Suzhou River. It was transformed from the former Shanghai Chunming Coarse Spinning Mill and other textile factories into a creative park. Compared to other creative parks, its most significant feature is the graffiti covering the walls along the street and the free gallery exhibitions. Here, you can view works of various artists, including abstract, realistic, watercolor, and oil paintings. Whether you are an expert or just an observer, it is an excellent place to cultivate artistic inspiration.
As a result, M50 exudes a rich and casual artistic atmosphere, with less commercialization. Many young people who are passionate about cultural industries and artistic creation visit this place to stroll, observe, and take photos. If tired, they can find a small coffee shop to relax. Over the years, M50 has attracted more than 130 artists and galleries, as well as graphic design, architectural firms, film production, environmental art design, and art (jewelry) design institutions from 17 countries and regions, including the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Canada, Norway, and Hong Kong, as well as from more than ten provinces and cities in China. The presence of these artists and creative design organizations has created a strong cultural atmosphere along the Suzhou River. The park is open all year round from 08:00 to 22:00.
