The Ming Dynasty Zhongdu Drum Tower is situated in the heart of the county, a significant ancillary structure of Zhongdu City. The drum tower’s platform is grand and spectacular, with the four vigorous and powerful characters ‘The Basis of Eternity’ on the lintel, visible from hundreds of meters away. The original appearance, described as ‘three-tiered eaves, a hundred feet of buildings, towering and spreading like wings, high and pure above the dust, grand in system, and magnificent in scale,’ will soon be revealed to the world. Around the drum tower, a thriving ancient-style commercial and tourist area has formed.
The drum tower has withstood the test of time for over 600 years, enduring repeated destruction and reconstruction. The foundation has been well-preserved, with neatly arranged column bases on top. Opening hours are from 08:00 to 17:30 all year round.
