The former site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located at No. 32 Zhongshan North Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, China.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs building covers an area of 5050 square meters, facing the Gulou Tower, with a T-shaped plan and a reinforced concrete structure featuring a flat roof. There is a spacious porch at the entrance. The central part of the building is four stories high, with two wings at three stories, and an additional semi-basement level. The overall architectural design and facade composition of the building primarily employ modern architectural techniques, while also integrating characteristics and details of traditional Chinese architecture. The exterior of the building is divided into three parts: the plinth, the wall body, and the eaves. The outer wall of the semi-basement on the ground floor is plastered with cement, symbolizing the base; the wall is faced with brown tiles; the eaves are decorated with simplified dougong ornaments made of colored glaze bricks of the same hue. Inside the building, the ceiling of the main hall is adorned with Qing-style colored paintings, and the interior walls feature traditional wall panel details. Moreover, the exterior walls, partitions, and floors of the building are made of hollow bricks, which effectively solve the sound insulation issue, ensuring optimal acoustic performance. The site is open all year round, with full-day access to both the interior and exterior spaces.Former Site of the Nationalist Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
