Tianjin Old City Museum

The museum is located in the traditional residence Xu Family Courtyard. It was originally the residence of Xu Piao’an, a comprador of the British firm of Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China in Tianjin. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It adopts the small-scale construction method of Chinese architecture, with blue bricks and a hard mountain top. The overall building faces south and is a ‘Qian House and Xun Gate’.

The central axis is composed of three courtyards, and there are archery lanes on both sides. Its architectural carvings are elegant and exquisite. It is the only well-preserved typical traditional residential three-entry and four-compound courtyard in Tianjin urban area. The museum witnesses 600 years of wind and rain in this city and collects the rich historical and cultural heritage of Tianjin. It has created and developed the civilization and progress of the city, leaving extremely precious historical and cultural masterpieces.

It has become a bond for people to cherish the past and connect family affection.
