Zhang Zuoxiang, courtesy name Fuchen, is from Yi County, Liaoning Province. He has served as a member of the Beiping Branch of the National Government Military Commission and a member of the Central Political Council, commander-in-chief of the Second Group Army in North China and commander-in-chief of the Sixth Army Group, and a member of the Political Council of the Northeast Administrative Office.


Zhang Zuoxiang’s former residence is located at No. 4, Chongqing Road, Heping District, Tianjin City. It was built in 1913. This is a garden residence with Western European style, elegant and unique. It was designed and contracted by French architects. The building is of brick-wood structure, with two floors with an attic and a semi-basement, red cylindrical tiles and a sloping roof. The wall surface is uneven and changeable, inlaid with Western-style carvings.


The facade is white. There are bluestone steps on both sides of the building to enter the main hall. On the ground floor, there are six rooms. On the south side of the center is a large living room with exquisitely carved wall panels. There is a large platform in front of the hall. Other rooms are used as study rooms and reception rooms. On the second floor, there are seven rooms, which are bedrooms and bathrooms.


The attic is a storage room. The basement is used as a boiler room and for servants to live in. There was originally a garden in front of the building. The former residence is now used by Tianjin Real Estate Development Company. It is an immovable cultural relic in Tianjin. Tourists can only visit outside.
