The Purple Butterfly Valley refers to the biological phenomenon of the congregation of the Purple Spotter butterflies for their winter migration. In Taiwan, there are dozens of valleys chosen by these butterflies for their wintering, all of which are collectively known as Purple Butterfly Valleys. In the Maolin area of Kaohsiung, there are at least seven such valleys. Every winter, millions of Purple Spotter butterflies take flight to this area to spend the winter, including species such as the Small Purple Spotter, the End Purple Spotter, the Round-winged Purple Spotter, and the Stoll’s Purple Spotter.
The specific opening times are subject to the announcements at the scenic area site.
