The Old Railway of Hualien City was once the bustling heart of transportation, running from the city center to the seaside train station along the former Hualien Railway. However, with the opening of the Bei-Hui railway in 1979, the focus of transportation shifted, leading to the decline of this once vibrant area.
In 2003, a new chapter began for the Old Railway as the railway road was opened, connecting Hualien City’s Chenggong Street to the Hualien Railway Tourism Business District and Guangfu Street. This revitalization brought with it a resurgence of businesses along Dayu Street, including light meal and porridge shops, rib noodle restaurants near Zhongshan Road on Zhongzheng Road, the Jincheng Ice Shop, and the San Ye Restaurant, each offering their unique flavors.
The areas of Jieyue Street and Guangfu Street have also seen a transformation, with the establishment of many personalized shops and the addition of periodic performances for visitors to enjoy. The district, now a hub of activity, is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day, making it a destination for both locals and tourists alike.
