The Taitung Mazu Temple in Taitung City is a temple with a history of more than a hundred years. It is located on the bustling Zhonghua Road in Taitung City. Inside the temple, there is an eight-inch-eight-tall founding Mazu deity. It is a Mazu incarnation invited from the ancestral temple of the Mazu Temple on Meizhou Island, Putian County, Fujian Province through the ‘inviting spirit ceremony’. Here, it has become the belief center of local believers because of its effective blessings. In addition, the Taitung Mazu Temple also preserves many historical relics from the Qing Dynasty. Among them, a plaque inscribed with ‘Spiritual Manifestation and Sincere Blessing’ presented by Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty is relatively famous. The Taitung Mazu Temple has also been retaining very rich traditional folk activities. For example, there are important festival activities such as Mazu’s birthday on March 23 of the lunar calendar every year, the ‘gods touring the border’ on the Lantern Festival, and the ‘cannon blasting Lord Handan’. Opening hours: Open from 6:00 to 22:00 all year round.
