Makung, also known as the leisurely fisherman’s island, encompasses Penghu Island, Zhongtun Island, Bai Sha Island, and Xiyu Island (alternatively called Fisherman’s Island).


During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Makung was a significant commercial and trade center for both sides of the strait. Today, it remains the administrative center of Penghu County. After hundreds of years, it has left behind numerous legendary stories and historical architectural sites.
