Hupao Park is located in the southwest mountain area of West Lake. There is the famous ‘Third Best Spring Under Heaven’ – Dreaming of Hupao Spring. The spring water of Hupao is known for its sweetness and mellowness. Regular drinking has certain health care effects. Therefore, it is often seen that local people fetch water with buckets here. Brewing Longjing tea with Hupao spring water is especially famous as a ‘perfect match’.
The area around Hupao Spring was originally Hupao Temple. Because Monk Xingkong in the Tang Dynasty dreamed that a tiger dug out a spring here by scratching the ground, it got this spring name. Here is also the place where the legendary eminent monk Jigong passed away. You can see scenic spots such as Jigong Hall and Jigong Pagoda Courtyard. The pagoda courtyard is where Jigong’s bones are buried. In modern times, the art master Li Shutong (Master Hongyi) also became a monk here. Now there is a Li Shutong Memorial Hall, displaying more than a hundred physical exhibits of Li Shutong’s lifetime. Hupao Park has a secluded environment. Climbing up the steps along the mountain all the way, there are many landscapes such as pavilions, spring ponds, and Arhat Hall. At the spring viewing place, you can see the statue of a tiger scratching the ground to dig a spring. The park is lush with foliage and is also a good place to escape the summer heat. Taking a break at the teahouse here and sipping Longjing tea brewed with Hupao spring water is extremely comfortable.Opening hours: Open all year round from 07:00 to 17:30.
