Anping Kaitai Tianhou Palace is located in Anping District, Tainan City. The main hall of the palace houses three soft-bodied Mazu statues, which are said to have arrived in Taiwan with Zheng Chenggong’s fleet and are therefore extremely precious. Originally named ‘Tianfei Palace’, the temple was first established in 1668 and later converted into a primary school. The three divine statues were temporarily housed in other temples before the temple was reconstructed in 1962 on the site of a Qing Dynasty naval command office. The temple also serves as a place to worship the founder of Taiwan, Zheng Chenggong. It is open all year round from 5:00 to 22:00.
