Peeliao is located in Wanhua District, Taipei City. In the past, Wanhua was also known as Mengjia. It was an important waterway transportation route in the Qing Dynasty. Peeliao is located on the Mengjia street. It is said that it was the place where the bark was peeled off when Fuzhou merchant ships transported Chinese fir in the Qing Dynasty. Strolling along the old street, most of the buildings on both sides are one or two-story brick-wood structures. Red bricks set off black tiles, dark brown wooden doors and windows, and Minnan-style verandas, giving it an antique charm.
Today, Peeliao is uninhabited. The local relevant departments have spent more than 400 million New Taiwan dollars to renovate the old street and use it as a place for sightseeing, local education and carrying out literary and artistic activities. Because the movie ‘Monga’ was filmed here, Peeliao has become increasingly famous. Tourists are swarming, and it has become a very characteristic tourist old street in Taipei.

The old Peeliao street contains many old houses and former residences, such as Dr. Lu Achang’s residence, Zhang Taiyan’s residence in Taiwan, Fengxiang Bathhouse, Song Xiexing Store, Changshou Tea Table Store, Yongxing Pavilion, Xiuying Teahouse, Weiling Altar, Rixiang Hotel, Taiyang Printing House, etc. There are also some scene decorations here, such as roadside porridge stalls. They are not open for business.

They are set up for tourists to take pictures.
