Baxian Mountain National Forest Recreation Area was once one of the three major forest farms in Taiwan. According to historical records, the mountain was discovered in 1911, named ‘Baxian Mountain’ due to its elevation of approximately 2,410 meters, phonetically similar to ‘Baxian’. The history of forestry exploitation in Baxian Mountain began in 1917, and today the wood factory has been transformed into the Baxian Mountain National Forest Recreation Area.
Surrounded by mountains, the summit offers a panoramic view of Yushan, Nenggao Mountain, and Qilai Mountain, among other undulating ranges. The forest is lush and teeming with birds, emitting abundant negative ions and phytoncides from the combination of moisture and plants, beneficial to human health. Those who live in cities for long periods are advised to visit and enjoy the ‘lung-washing’ forest breath. The area is intersected by Shiwenxi and Jiabaoxi, with water originating from the deep forest mountains. The streams are filled with rocks of various sizes, creating unique rapids and landscapes, earning the reputation of being one of the ‘Two Famous Springs in Taiwan’. Baxian Mountain’s beautiful scenery is captivating and unforgettable, making it an ideal place for hiking, forest bathing, birdwatching, and vacationing. Apart from the charming natural landscapes, the recreational area also boasts a rich array of tourist attractions. The park has specially planned three forest bathing trails. The ‘Mengzong Bamboo Forest – Shrine and Elementary School Site’ trail visits the Taiwan Eight Scenic Spots入选 monument, shrine ruins, and Jinghai Temple, where the past prosperity can still be seen. Along the way, there is a vast, deep bamboo forest and large camphor trees. The entrance to Baxian Mountain is also located here. The other two trails, ‘Shiwenxi Riverside – Upper Reaches’ and ‘Downhill Stairs – Dam Area’, follow the stream, providing a refreshing water亲近 trail, especially suitable for summer visits. The entire park is open throughout the year from 07:00 to 17:00.Baxian Mountain National Forest Recreation Area
