Exhibition Introduction:

Lin Jianzhong graduated with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in art creation from Maryland Institute College of Art. Currently, he creates artworks in Kaohsiung. The exhibition name ‘Born of Light and Shadow’ stems from the artist’s feelings during the creative process. This exhibition is divided into two parts. One part showcases Lin Jianzhong’s sketches and drawings during his two-year residency and travels in Japan. In this series of works, the characteristics of local humanities and historical buildings are presented, and the local human life is depicted. It records his short-term residency in Minami, Tokushima Prefecture, his participation in local creative activities, and his creative exchanges with local artists in Osaka and Kyoto. During this process, in addition to extensive image shooting, he uses painting as a medium for creation to record the beautiful disappearing time and tell the memories in existence.

The other part of the exhibition is Lin Jianzhong’s long-term focus on abstract painting creation. Through the progress in artistic creation, Lin Jianzhong’s works present paintings in an intuitive abstract way. The paintings use a large number of lines and color blocks intertwined. In the local treatment method, the relationship between relatives is connected through the depiction of traditional fabric patterns. And from the perspective of the works, the external imagination is explored to the internal exploration of painting. The exhibition ‘Born of Light and Shadow’ is a neutral name. Viewing the works at the exhibition site allows viewers to construct imaginative experiences from their own experiences. When everyone needs to watch images, chase light and shadow, and find their own coordinates and identity recognition in daily life, but our perceptions of the light and shadow process are different. Through perceptual understanding, we understand our own existence. This exhibition specifically presents Lin Jianzhong’s research on painting creation in recent years. Full text opening hours are from 10/26 to 11/21. The performance time and duration are subject to the actual situation on site.
