The Bunun Tribe is located in Taoyuan Village, Yanping Township, Taitung County, and is an important tribe in the Hualien-Taitung Valley, geographically isolated from the outside world, forming its own unique realm. The park features a handicrafts sales area, a performance venue, a Bunun weaving workshop, and exhibitions of iron, wood, stone sculptures, pottery, and stone slab artworks and paintings by several ethnic minority artists. The popular spot within the park is the tribal café, where freshly brewed coffee aromas fill the air. The semi-outdoor seating offers a great view, overlooking the Lu Ming Stream, and the furniture such as tables and chairs integrate popular totems and symbols, creating new ethnic minority art. The tribe’s theater features the ‘Eight-Part Harmony,’ a sound akin to celestial music, for which the Bunun people are known worldwide. Every year between November and December, the Bunun people hold a millet sowing ceremony to pray for a bountiful harvest, with men forming a circle and singing the ‘Prayer for Millet Harvest’. Initially, the song consists of only four-part harmony, but when the pitch reaches a certain level, eight distinct notes emerge, a unique harmony method in the world and a performance not to be missed by visitors. Additionally, the musical instruments of the Bunun people are well-preserved among ethnic minorities, with the unique four-stringed instrument being particularly notable. Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.
