Changchun Shrine is located not far from the entrance of Taroko Gorge, housing the spirits of 212 employees who died in the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway. The architectural style of Changchun Shrine is modeled after the Tang Dynasty, nestled into the mountain wall, with fresh spring water gushing from the rock face, forming a spectacular waterfall. This waterfall, known as the ‘Changchun Waterfall’, splits in front of the shrine and flows into a stream, presenting a scene reminiscent of a traditional Chinese painting with its elegantly classical pavilion architecture.

Behind the shrine, there is a winding stone staircase of 380 steps, colloquially known as the ‘Heavenly Ladder’. Climbing to the top leads to the Guanyin Cave, which houses a stone statue of Guanyin and a comprehensive map of the Central Cross-Island Highway construction. The shrine is open year-round from 8:30 to 17:00.

Essential Tips: 1. The geological strata in this area are unstable and prone to rockfalls and landslides, so please pay special attention to your surroundings during your visit. Do not proceed if there are signs of rockfalls. 2. The steps from Changchun Shrine to Taroko Tower are steep and made of concrete, becoming slippery when wet, so please be cautious with your steps. 3. Those who are unwell or have heart conditions should consider their ability to climb the steep stairs (Heavenly Ladder) section.
