Fu’an Palace is situated in the bustling streets of Checheng Township, with its grand and magnificent architecture that exudes an imposing presence, making it one of the largest temples dedicated to the Earth God in Southeast Asia.
Upon crossing the temple’s square amidst the flow of vehicles and entering the bustling hall filled with voices, one can immediately sense the temple’s popularity and thriving incense. The main hall houses a statue of the Earth God, adorned in a dragon robe and official hat bestowed by Emperor Guangxu, which commands respect and admiration. The temple is home to many ancient plaques, with the one inscribed on the right wall of the main hall dating back to the 53rd year of the Qianlong era being particularly famous. In addition, the stone lions in front of the temple, each measuring 9 feet 2 inches in height and length, with a base of 7 feet 8 inches, are among the top stone-carved lions in Taiwan. Fu’an Palace serves as the center of folk beliefs in the Hengchun area. The temple’s square often hosts festivals and cultural events, allowing visitors to pay their respects while also gaining insights into the local customs and culture of the Hengchun Peninsula.
