The Checheng Train Station, affectionately known as the “beautiful station,” is nestled in Checheng Village, situated beneath the Mingtan Dam. This charming station is one of the last three surviving branch lines of the Taiwan Railway, and it has become a favorite among tourists who flock to ride the scenic tourist trains.
The Jiji Branch Line, which encompasses the Checheng Train Station, was originally constructed in 1919. Spanning from Ershui in Changhua to Checheng in Nantou, the line extends for a total of 29.8 kilometers. Unfortunately, the Checheng Train Station suffered significant damage during the 921 Earthquake. However, it has since been meticulously renovated, with a focus on using logs as the primary building material. This unique approach has not only been applied to the main structure of the station but also extends to the paving of the square in front of it with logs.
Visitors can enjoy the Checheng Train Station all year round, as it operates daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
