The Chiayi prison was built in 1922. As a new prison has been opened in Lucao Township, the old prison has been transformed into a prison administration museum. Today, the museum still retains the furnishings and environment of the previous prison, allowing people to experience prison life and showing everyone the results of the preservation and reuse of the Chiayi prison. At the same time, it is also the filming location for more than fifty movies and TV dramas. Opening hours: Open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 – 12:00, 13:30 – 16:00. Must-see tips: In addition to seeing the things that should be in the prison, there are also some cultural relics on prison administration on display, including slippers in which prisoners secretly hid cigarettes back then. The content is quite rich and also makes people realize the preciousness of freedom. The military dependents’ village next to the prison feels more solemn than ordinary military dependents’ villages because most of the residents are personnel from legal institutions.
