Ciling Palace, founded in 1985, stands in Dayou Village, Lunbei Township, Yunlin County. This temple is dedicated to Fang Xiangu, also known as Dongfang Linggu, a revered deity from Pingdong. Despite her young age, she is considered a celestial being and should be respectfully addressed as Fang Xiangu.
Fang Xiangu, whose secular name was Fang Chunling, lived in Huwei Town, Yunlin County, during her earthly days. Her life took a tragic turn when she fell into the Ah Wu Waterfall at Shengnv Lake, Gaoshu Township, Pingdong County, and ascended to heaven while meditating. An unusual event occurred when bystanders lifted her; they used a stone as a pillow, which caused her spirit to inhabit the stone.
Fang Xiangu has since been known as a deity with extraordinary divine power, widely revered for her ability to save all beings and protect the populace. Her followers have expanded her temple from a small shrine to a grand one, with the construction completed in 1986.
